BURKINA FASO is a landlocked country in the western part of Africa . Nations sharing its borders are: Benin, Ghana. Ivory Coast, Mali, Togo, and Niger. The major ethnic group are from the ancient kingdoms of the Mossi. Among the other people are the Fulani, Mande, and Senufo. Although French is the official language, over 90% of the people speak indigenous languages. The major river is the Volta and the capital city is Ougadugou. Formerly named Upper Volta, the country changed its name in 1984. The present name means " Land of People of Integrity."
