Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire)
IVORY COAST aka Cote d'Ivoire is a country on the coast of West Africa. Its land neighbors include, Ghana, Mali Guinea, Liberia, and Burkina Faso. The country has over 60 ethnic divisions including the Baoule, Senufo, Malinke, and Bete. Dioula is the most widely spoken indigenous language. The name of the capital Abidjan, was later changed to Yamoussoukro.
The art of the Senufo people is famous and very desirable. Works of art include painted cloth wall hangings (Korhogo cloth), masks used in secret society (such as Poro) rituals, carved doors, furniture and figures including the hornbill bird, lizards, dancers, fish and the like.
