Mali

MALI is a landlocked country of West Africa bounded by seven neighboring countries: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Senegal, and Niger.  The capital city is Bamako.  The various people of Mali include; the Bambara, Malinke,  and Sarakole of the Mande group, also Peul, Tuareg, Dogon, and Songhai.  Major languages in Mali are Bambara (spoken by 80% of the population) and French.

The Dogon are today a tourist attraction noted for their religious rituals and masquerade, ancient astronomer/priests, cliff side homes and conical granaries.  Their artwork is prized being mainly carved wooden statues and  masks.  Another attraction is Timbuktu, the ancient university city with its famous Great Mosque, fashioned of soaring mud structures.
